SSB Guest Post January 20
Just an update. The folks over at Since Sliced Bread put the post I just did a few days ago up on their site as a guest post.
They just up and asked me. I don’t even know how they found it.
Anyhow, if you’re interested in the comments it got (ouch), go ahead and check it out :

Hi Scott,
I just saw your guest post over on the Since Sliced Bread blog.
I’m the author of idea 19132. I realize you have not asking for any explanation from me, but I feel this is a good opportunity to clarify a few things…
Please rest assured that I did not copy your idea. I didn’t even see your submission until I saw all the negative comments when my submission was chosen as one of the 21 finalists. In fact, I stumbled upon the Since Sliced Bread website a few hours before the submission deadline, so I didn’t have a chance to review any of the submissions on the site before I submitted mine.
I have been working in the internet industry for almost 10 years, so I am very passionate about all thing internet related, especially wireless. My girlfriend is a NYC public school teacher, and my exposure to her students REALLY reinforces my concern regarding the separation of the “information haves” and the “information have-nots”. I firmly believe that the lack of widespread internet access is contributing to the exponential growth of the rift between the social classes.
In addition to addressing the above stated problem, there is no doubt that a national wireless infrastructure would enhance the lives of all Americans, as well as the American economy. I can’t think of one single concept that would do more to spur innovation and lead to the creation of new ancillary companies.
In any case, I wholeheartedly agree with the 4 points you posted in response to the negative feedback surrounding the idea. On behalf of all of us who believe in the idea, thanks for educating those who can’t see the light. Well done.
Also, I want to express my sincere appreciation regarding your stance from the time the 21 finalist ideas were announced. Even before my idea was knocked out of the competition, I noticed some of your posts still supporting the idea, contrary to the many angry voices who were suggesting that you were robbed and encouraging you to sue. I’m glad you stepped above it.
Feel free to drop me a line if you want to continue the dialogue.
Stay well.
-Mike

Yikes! Sorry for the double post, as well as the HTML tags that were not processed properly. I use Firefox, and it looks like your site choked on it.

Can’t say I agree with you guys…. but I figure someone should post something here. I don’t really understand why the SSB “bloggers” are so thoroughly disinterested in having an organized discussion somewhere… but there is a lot I don’t understand about the Internet. In my opinion, there is no point in providing for universal access to a shysternet. Beyond the practical problem of giving sparsely populated middle America something useful for the substantial taxation such a project would impose… I don’t even have an urgent need for broad band and I’ve been using the Internet since the “DOS” days… as I see it the Internet has followed the same course of evolution as cable TV which has us paying a lot more, for just a lot more commercials…. does anyone really want their MTV anymore? The promised information superhighway, is a billboard laden, mini mall parking lot. SSB is pretty much a perfect example of the rampant deception the system is designed to reward rather than punish. Frankly greater accessibility is not going to save the Internet, or make American society more productive. What the Internet needs isn’t an investment of money for greater accessibility, what it needs is the logical (infrastructure) construction lost to chaos shortly after its birth.
